How it starts

What it has going for it
The dating-app opening is a modern, believable way into a familiar fantasy, and it gives Jake a reason to be there that is his own fault. That matters: he is not trapped by a snowstorm or a family trip, he walked into this.
The daughter is the second engine. A secret that one other person knows is a lever, and the synopsis leaves it open how she plans to use it. The phrase about a door that will not stay shut suggests the affair keeps restarting rather than ending cleanly.
The weaker side is that the setup is close to several other series in the catalogue about a friend’s or partner’s mother. If you have seen those, the shape will not surprise you.
