The premise
A shy, curvy new temp joins a London office, and her boss falls for her almost immediately. The problem is his personal assistant: blonde, confident and jealous, she has no intention of letting a newcomer take her place, and she is prepared to do anything to wreck their forbidden fling.
Three characters instead of two is what makes it work. The affair gives the series its heat, but the assistant gives it a plot, with someone actively working against the couple from the first episode.
What sets it apart
- A real antagonist. Most five-parters are built on one situation between two people. Here there is a rival with her own agenda, which gives the few episodes more direction.
- A contrast in the leads. The shy temp and the self-assured assistant are written as opposites, and the boss is caught between them.
- A British setting. The London office is a change from the suburban houses that dominate the catalogue.
