Hired through the family
The setup is a favor that backfires. A man’s girlfriend calls in a few favors to get him a job, which sounds generous until he learns who he will be reporting to: her stepmother, polished and glamorous, who is not just his supervisor but the person in charge of the whole floor. And she has intentions for him that have little to do with his performance review.
What it gets right
The premise stacks two power imbalances on top of each other. At home, she is his girlfriend’s stepmom; at work, she signs off on his job. That double hold gives the series more tension than a plain office fling, because every choice he makes puts both his relationship and his paycheck at risk. The girlfriend’s role is a nice ironic touch as well, since she is the one who put him there.
What it leaves thin
Beyond that neat opening, the synopsis says little. There is no rival, no scheme and no deadline mentioned, so the story rests on the stepmom’s plans and how he responds to them. Candy gives it only one tag, Mother, which is modest next to the Taboo-heavy labels on similar series. Fans of the office genre will recognize the beats; the family link is what keeps it from being generic.
