The setup
Dad heads off on a business trip and leaves his new wife, Ava, running the household, with you explicitly included in the arrangement. His parting instruction is that you should do whatever she tells you. Ava decides to treat that line as a literal rule, and it becomes clear quickly that her plans for you go well beyond chores. The twist the synopsis leans on is that refusing is not on the table.
It is a one-line hook, and the series knows it. Everything hangs on a single sentence from an absent father and on how far his wife is willing to stretch it.
Why the hook works, and where it runs thin
The appeal is the power imbalance. Ava is not just the stepmom in the next room; she has been handed authority, and the story is about her using it. That gives the series a clearer engine than the many Candy stepmom stories that rely on a chance encounter or a locked door.
The weakness is that the synopsis offers nothing else. There is no rival, no risk of Dad coming home early that we are told about, no second complication. If the premise does not grab you in the opening minutes, there is little on paper to suggest a change of direction later.
What the free episodes tell you
Episodes 1 and 2 cost nothing, and they are where the house rules get established. That is enough to decide whether Ava’s brand of authority is your thing.
