What it is about
Kyle’s father has remarried and then left for the whole summer, and the title makes a point of how young his new wife, Skye, is. With the house to themselves, Skye lays down a short list of house rules: stay seated, keep your hands to yourself, only watch. Things change when she brings her best friend over, at which point she drops the rules altogether.
The hook: rules, then no rules
The structure is the best thing about it. Skye starts out in control, setting strict limits, and the arrival of her best friend is the pivot that tips the series from look-don’t-touch into something else. It is a clear two-stage setup that fits five episodes, and the friend gives it a second character to play off.
It is not an original idea, though. An absent father, a young stepmom and a long summer is close to a Candy template, and the synopsis does not add anything to set it apart beyond the rules. There is no rival and no looming return home that we are told about, so the tension has to come from Skye herself and from the moment her friend walks in.
