What happens
Mona and her stepbrother are guests for the summer at the country home of a traditional, wealthy British family in Kent. Her feelings for him run hot one moment and cold the next, and the tension between them keeps spilling into a household that runs on rules and routine. The contrast between the two of them and their very correct hosts is the whole idea.
The good part
The setting does a lot of work. Most stepsibling stories on Candy happen in an ordinary family home, where the only people to hide from are parents. Here the audience is a whole household of strangers with firm ideas about manners, which gives every close call a bit more at stake.
Mona’s inconsistency is also a better engine than simple attraction. A crush that keeps switching on and off suggests a push and pull between the two leads rather than a straight line, and the synopsis promises chaos rather than just secrecy.
The caveat
Stepsibling stories are one of the most crowded corners of the catalogue; Candy’s Sister tag covers 19 series. The Kent setting is what separates this one, and if the country-house angle does not appeal, there is little else in the description to set it apart.
